Delivering Innovative Solutions for 40 years

ATD emolda celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024 and during that time we have been converting and manufacturing components and assemblies for industrial, medical and pharmaceutical applications.

Our customers are located all over the world and many of those customers have been with us on our journey since the early days.

In recent years, ATD emolda has focused on the development of materials for advanced wound care applications and have become a thought leader in this space.

Our Product Range

We have developed a range of PolyUrethane (PU) foams, silicone adhesives with class leading performance. Additionally, we have developed the capability to incorporate a wide range of materials into the PU foam platforms to provide antimicrobial or other functionality to the foams we have developed.

Polyurethane (PU) Foam

ATD emolda has developed three different foam platforms (PU2, PU3 and PUx) for utilisation in advanced wound care dressings and on-the-body applications. Our next generation PUx foam platform is an aliphatic PU foam with the following characteristics:

  • Very high dry and wet strength
  • High absorption
  • Fast absorption and excellent fluid handling capability
  • White – stays white after sterilisation
  • Requires 60% less thermal energy to produce
  • No harmful solvents or gases are released during production

Antimicrobial PU Foam

ATD emolda has incorporated many different antimicrobial agents into our different foam platforms including;

  • Ag+
  • PHMB
  • CHG
  • Povidone iodine
  • Quaternary salts
  • Peptides
  • Novel agents

We are able to look at the release characteristics of these agents from the foam and additionally can develop analytical methods (e.g. fluorimetry, UV vis, HPLC, atomic absorption) to detect the concentration of these agents within the foam.

Internal Microbial Screening

ATD emolda has in-house microbial screening capabilities so we can quickly and efficiently screen for efficacy against a range of gram+ and gram- bacteria during the development greatly speeding up the development process and significantly reducing the cost of each development cycle.

PU Foam as a Trans Dermal Delivery (TDD) System

ATD emolda has developed several methods of incorporating different agents into our foam platforms. These antimicrobials and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) can be introduced during manufacture of the foam or can be impregnated or added post foam production depending on the application and requirements of the additive. The following are examples of some of the compounds that we have successfully incorporated into our foams.

  • Pain Relief Medication – e.g. lidocaine, ibuprofen
  • Pharmaceuticals – e.g. hormones
  • Cosmetic additives – e.g. collagen, keratin, vitamins, retinol, hyaluronic acid
  • Anti-odour agents – e.g. charcoal
  • Colouring agents

Soft Silicone Adhesives (SSA)

We at ATD emolda are delighted to be working with TransContinental on the development of a new, high quality, soft silicone adhesive (SSA) for the advanced wound care and wearables market.

This product has been developed in partnership between the two companies and has been two years in development. The product utilises TC’s high quality Inspire range of polyurethane films and is available as both a duolaminate product (SSA on a PU film) or a trilaminate product (SSA on a PU film with acrylic adhesive on the underside).

Finished Device / Dressing Manufacturing

ATD emolda is investing in its manufacturing capability and will be in position to manufacture and package finished devices and dressings commencing in 2026. These activities will take place in our newly constructed Class 7 & Class 8 clean rooms in our new facility in Ireland.
